New work discovered - Charlie O'Sullivan.

Great vibrant artwork from Charlie O'Sullivan. I like what she's doing and her work is clearly 'sellable'. A cheery addition to any home during these grey times!

Tribal Art

These paintings are part of a series I've been working on for a couple of months now. The colour piece is approximately 380 x 540 mm, I used both spirit based and acrylic inks on watercolour card. There are 14 individual panels joined together to create this piece The monochrome piece is approx. 290 x 390 mm and was executed on one single board. They are off to the frame man today to be put behind glass. The images come from a mixture of influences: My travels around the world, architecture, rhythm and nature. I have been told they would transfer succesfully onto fabric or even stained glass. This would require a tremendous amount of effort as they are time consuming enough to create with inks. When I started out on this project I had no idea it would head in this direction at all, the work has become tribal, almost psychedelic in it's appearance, they are certainly eye catching. That's fine, each piece feels right and working on them has been immensely satisfying even dare I say therapeutic!

OKGO OF THE BLUE COLOUR OF THE SKY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qybUFnY7Y8w

I've recently received the 'extra nice edition' of the OK GO CD Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky. I was surfing the music pages of You Tube desperately looking for a new sound for my music collection. I was delighted to stumble across this creative group of individuals. Not only do they produce great music (and inspire and encourage others to remix versions of their tunes) they also make very watchable and clever music videos. The above link takes you to the first video of theirs that I saw, this one got me hooked and the lyrics made a bit of sense to me too. Funny that, how apparently random findings like this seem to be particularly relevant to one personally (like some kind of life soundtrack washing up on the colour beach exchanges shores) 'LET IT GO THIS TOO SHALL PASS'.....I find these lyrics bouncing around inside my head at the moment!

Little Lion Man by Mumford And Sons

<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5HHnDEnsdno" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>

This clip is taken from the Bookshop Sessions. I saw Mumford at the Eden Project in Cornwall last summer, what a great sound! Excellent tunes washed down with a couple of local ales finished off with good conversation late into the night in the local campsite.

Chris Moyles and Justin Lee Colins

I just caught Chris Moyles on his Radio One breakfast show interviewing Justin Lee Colins. The morning show team were praising him on how good he looked and on how much weight he had lost (something like 24 stone at his heaviest now weighing in at about 12 stone) for a few seconds everyone really praised him, unitl...Justin Lee Colins explained that his current state of well-being was down to a combination of going to the gym and giving up drinking. This of course was unnacceptable to the rest of the guys in the studio, from then on he was reffered to as a hippy, loosing it etc. The humour was there of course but I thought the underlying message was sad. Chris Moyles reaches millions of young people with his excellent morning show but I do have issues with Radio One's hipoctritical attidude towards the nation's alcohol problem. There is no doubt that there is a problem in some areas (I have worked in communities that have been effected by groups of teenage drinkers wandering the streets wasted and causing damage and mindlessly assaulting vulnerable people). I would see JLC's new lifestyle as an opportunity to praise self control, self discipline and will power. I know it seems that I'm not getting the point within the context of the show however, one minute the Newsbeat team are reporting increased figures of teenage illness from alcohol abuse (with their serious and slightly dissaproving tone applied to these kind of features) the next minute the nation's most popular DJ making JLC look like a freak for giving up the booze! That said, I do enjoy the Moyles show and I'll definately be tuning in to the new JLC series tonight...Especially looking forward to the clip of the monkey waiter in a Japaneese restaurant.

Found a beauty today...

Having about 20 minutes spare before I picked up the lad from school today I casually wandered into one of my (ever growing in number) local charity shops. I was immediately captivated by this lovely little watercolour - approx 6" x 8" image size. Not only impressed with the skill with which it was executed, I was also interested in the subject and the artist. I quickly got in touch my financial advisor to see if the £4.99 investment would indeed be an investment. Mrs Crazyfingers said yes and this fantastic little work of art was looking as if was mine. I then endured 10 minutes of the volunteer assistant (enter stage left 70 year old pink rinse darling of a granny) explaining to me that she wasn't an art critic and that she couldn't 'verify that it was an original'. I said 'It clearly is because...' and then an unexpected argument ensued. Eventually I handed over a fiver and jogged happily out of the shop.

I managed to pick up son from school in time and after a couple of pre-planned diversions (Library, shopping, mushroom picking etc.) I managed to get home, rustle up a culinary masterpiece and settle down to some pin point research on Google. Fantastic! So I now own a beautifully executed watercolour of a Russian Orthodox church built 300 years ago on the island of Kizhi in Onega.
The structure stands at nearly 32 storeys high and is primarlily built out of wood. No nails were used in it's making. The Island is one of Russia's top tourist attractions and is home to several unique hand built 'antique' timber framed stuctures. The 'Transfiguration Church' is actually made up of three seperate churches built within meters of each other which, when viewed from several angles (such as in this photo) appears as a massive singular structure. I have several friends working on finding out who the artist might be as there is no signature. There is however an interesting inscription at the bottom of the painting that has been erased (impression still in the paper) which reads HennpoBCKnn c.98 all the 'n' letters are the reversed Russian letter. So This photo is actually the real thing, pretty impressive I think especially as I had never even heard of this place yesterday. I have found a future destination to discover in my travels. I personally hope that we could explore every inch of the building however I suspect that access is very limited. Apparently the tour guides actually live in the buildings...imagine the fun you could have running around at night in this place!
