Chris Moyles and Justin Lee Colins

I just caught Chris Moyles on his Radio One breakfast show interviewing Justin Lee Colins. The morning show team were praising him on how good he looked and on how much weight he had lost (something like 24 stone at his heaviest now weighing in at about 12 stone) for a few seconds everyone really praised him, unitl...Justin Lee Colins explained that his current state of well-being was down to a combination of going to the gym and giving up drinking. This of course was unnacceptable to the rest of the guys in the studio, from then on he was reffered to as a hippy, loosing it etc. The humour was there of course but I thought the underlying message was sad. Chris Moyles reaches millions of young people with his excellent morning show but I do have issues with Radio One's hipoctritical attidude towards the nation's alcohol problem. There is no doubt that there is a problem in some areas (I have worked in communities that have been effected by groups of teenage drinkers wandering the streets wasted and causing damage and mindlessly assaulting vulnerable people). I would see JLC's new lifestyle as an opportunity to praise self control, self discipline and will power. I know it seems that I'm not getting the point within the context of the show however, one minute the Newsbeat team are reporting increased figures of teenage illness from alcohol abuse (with their serious and slightly dissaproving tone applied to these kind of features) the next minute the nation's most popular DJ making JLC look like a freak for giving up the booze! That said, I do enjoy the Moyles show and I'll definately be tuning in to the new JLC series tonight...Especially looking forward to the clip of the monkey waiter in a Japaneese restaurant.
